Darlene Anderson

November 26, 1933 — March 4, 2024

Darlene J. Anderson, 90, formerly of Wyndmere, North Dakota, passed away and entered into her heavenly home on Monday, March 4, 2024, at CHI Lisbon Health in Lisbon, ND.  Her funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Monday, March 11, 2024, at Harvest Outreach Church in Wahpeton, ND.  There will be a visitation one hour prior. Burial will be at Elk Creek Cemetery, Wyndmere, ND.   Pastor Dominick Warne will officiate the service.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.

Darlene Josephine Aljoe was born November 26, 1933, in Valley City, ND, to Joseph and Elizabeth (Outram) Aljoe.  She attended school in Tower City, ND, where she graduated high school.   Then in 1954, she graduated from Sisters of St. Joseph’s School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. She was employed at St. Luke’s Hospital (Sanford) in Fargo, ND, for 7 years.  After that, she began working at St. Catherine’s Living Center in Wahpeton, and was employed there for 17 years.   Darlene loved nursing and helping the needy.  It was truly her first love.

Darlene was united in marriage to James D. Anderson in 1955 in Tower City, ND.   After the couple were married, they made their home in Wyndmere, ND.  The couple was blessed with two children, Jimmy and Susan.

Darlene was a crafty lady known for her embroidered dish towels and other items she would make throughout the year and sell at crazy days.   When they would travel or go camping, she would take her crafting along.  She enjoyed the time spent with family whether it be at home or camping on Pelican Lake- where they would go and explore Tahipsina Mounds.  Darlene truly enjoyed her church family and the friends she made along the way during bible study.  Being a woman true to her faith, she even served as a jail chaplain for a period of time.  She never missed a moment to share God’s word.  She will truly be missed.

Darlene is survived by her daughter, Susan (Dean) Heitkamp; grandchildren, Bobbi Jo (Jay) McCleery, Jesse Griggs, Kyle (Tara) Anderson, Jennifer Anderson, Joshua Heitkamp (Lauren Jensen), Dustin (Jess) Heitkamp, Chelsey (Nick) Lee; great-grandchildren, John, Allison, Jaidyn, Maleia, Tessa, Brant, Bryce, Brady, Harper, Aiden, Kail, DJ, Alex, Joe, Chase, Landry, Graham, and baby A on the way; great-great-grandchildren, Carson and Macy; sister, Ardis Oettle; and many other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Elizabeth, husband James; son, James Jr; two brothers; and one sister.

The family would like to thank Nancy Johnson, RN, CCP, Katie Tanner, PAC, and the North Dakota Veterans Home Staff for the wonderful care they provided to Darlene. They would also like to thank CHI – Essentia Hospital Staff in Lisbon for their wonderful comfort care.
