David Eugene Bernstein, 73, of Wahpeton, North Dakota, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026, beginning at 2:00 p.m., with the funeral service following at 3:00 p.m. All services will be held at Bethel Lutheran Church in Wahpeton, North Dakota.
David was born on March 2, 1953, in Fargo, North Dakota, to Henry Bernstein and Beverly Sveum. He grew up in the Davenport-Lisbon area and attended high school in Lisbon.
David began his construction career working for Wayne and Fritz Construction in Lisbon from 1970 to 1975. In 1975, he moved to Wahpeton and worked for Comstock Construction until 1983. In 1983, he proudly started his own business, Bernstein Construction, which he operated until his passing.
David was united in marriage to Beth Houge on November 17th 1973 and to this union two children were born: Jon David Bernstein and Amy Marie Bernstein.
David was passionate about his work and took great pride in every construction project he completed. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, gardening, and caring for his lawn and spending time with family and his 4 of July family reunions. Most of all, he cherished spending time with his grandchildren and watching them grow. He loved attending their sporting events, taking them out for supper and ice cream, and going for rides in his beloved Chevelle.
David will be remembered for his strong work ethic, witty personality, and caring heart.
He is survived by his son, Jon David (Christy) Bernstein, and grandson, Trevor David Bernstein; his daughter, Amy Marie Bernstein (Chris Olmstead); his siblings, Robert (Ronna) Bernstein, Shirley Johnson, Eileen Bernstein, Richard Bernstein, and Leroy Bernstein; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Bernstein; his mother, Beverly Adolf; his sister, Elaine Thayer; his brother-in-law, Danny Thayer; his sister-in-law, Loretta Bernstein; and his granddaughter, Bailey Jo Bernstein.
