Delphia Johnson

April 13, 1921 — March 5, 2016

Del Johnson, 94, of Wahpeton, ND passed away on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Siena Court Assisted Living, Wahpeton and under the care of CHI Health at Home Hospice. Her funeral service will be at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Wahpeton with Pastor Charles O'Hare and Pastor Darrel Lindensmith officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.

Delphia Erna Schreiber was born on April 13, 1921 to August and Anna (Dorn) Schreiber at the Schreiber farm home in Summit Township. She grew up in Fairmount and attended Summit School #6 for eight years and later attended Wahpeton Public High School for four years.

On June 14, 1939, she married Raymond C. Johnson at St. John's Catholic Rectory in Wahpeton, ND. The couple lived in the Dwight area for seven years while they farmed dairy and grain. They later moved to Center Township in 1946 where they continued farming until 1960. Del also worked as a seamstress and did commercial sewing from their farm home, actually making all of her own clothes. She retired in 1970 and the two moved to Wahpeton. Ray passed away on October 5, 1994. Del continued to live in Wahpeton until the time of her death.

Del was a member of Seventh-Day Adventist Church where she was active in many functions in the service of her church. She was always willing to help whenever help was needed, especially in the role as a deaconess of the church. Del was usually the first one to arrive at the church each week to greet the members and visitors. She enjoyed spending her time reading and making quilts. She also enjoyed participating in fellowship and Bible studies.
Del is survived by her sister, Mary Heaton and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, August and Anna, her brothers, Alvin Schreiber and Elroy Schreiber and her sisters, Leila Blaine and Kathryn Stein.
