Donald Freitag

Donald "Don" Alroy Freitag, 88, Wahpeton, ND passed away on Friday, October 24, 2014 at St. Catherine's Living Center, Wahpeton. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, October 28, at 2:00 PM at Willow Creek Chapel, Wahpeton with Rev. Peter Erickson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Interment will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND.

Don was born on August 4, 1926 in Great Bend, ND to Clarence and Sophia (Nelson) Freitag. At the age of seventeen he enlisted in the United States Navy during WWII. Don was united in marriage to Lola Rogers on June 19, 1948 in Breckenridge, MN.

Don moved his family to Renton, WA and began working for Boeing Aircraft. After several years they moved to Chula Vista, CA and began working for Coronado Golf Course which is where he retired in 1991. At that time he began his own business as a small engine repair man. In 1995, Don and Lola returned to Wahpeton to retire.

Don enjoyed family gatherings during the holidays. He also enjoyed being outside and taking care of his yard. Don entertained himself by playing the guitar and singing hymns.

Don is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lola, his children, Cheryle (Patrick) Haley, Lancaster, CA, Roger (Sharon) Freitag, Fairmount, ND, Ricky (Nancy) Freitag, West Fargo, ND, Sheila (Charles) Massengale, Galt, CA; his grandchildren, Connie (Mace) Okeson, Wahpeton, ND, Scott Barton, El Cajon, CA, Jim (Stacey) Barton, El Cajon, CA, Jessica Freitag, Fargo, ND, Lucas Freitag, Fargo, ND, Christina (Ron) Kind, Fargo, ND, Eric Freitag, West Fargo, ND, Laura Freitag, Cavalier, ND, Stacy and Kevin Massengale, Galt, CA; fourteen great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; brother, DuWayne Freitag; his sisters, Ardis Purdy, and Maxine Uhlrich, Mohall, ND; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.
