Esther Margaret Evenson was born on August 5, 1912 the first child of Edwin and Dora (Gilbertson) Evenson on the home farm near Dwight, ND. She was baptized and confirmed at the Wild Rice Lutheran Church (now Faith Lutheran Church) in Dwight by Rev. W.B. Dahl. Margaret attended grade school in Dwight and graduated with a class of 29 students from Wahpeton High School in 1929. She then attended Mayville State Teachers College and received her teacher's certificate. She taught school in Trail County, ND for 2 years and then moved back to Richland County and taught for 10 years. Her first school in Richland County was Center Township #4 which is now located next to the Richland County Historical Museum. During WWII she worked one winter in Pasadena, CA at the Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. making fuel cells for bombers.

Margaret was united in marriage to Lars Oie on December 28, 1946 at the Galchutt Lutheran Church. They lived on their farm in Ibsen Township and farmed and did custom work. Lars passed away suddenly on October 9, 1982; Margaret continued to live and manage the farm until she became a resident of St. Francis Nursing Home in 2008. She never lost interest in the farming operations and was always concerned about the weather and crop conditions. She loved maintaining her flower and vegetable gardens and sharing her produce with friends and family.

Margaret was a member of Galchutt Lutheran Church and WELCA which she served as president for two terms and sent cards to the parishioners which were written like you were visiting with her. She was also president of the Ibsen Homemakers Club for ten years and secretary/treasurer of the Ibsen School Board before it joined the Wahpeton School District. Family was very important to Margaret and she was interested in what was happening in their lives and organized a Cousins Reunion in 1997. Margaret thoroughly enjoyed her 100th birthday party at the Bagg Farm in 2012, where she gave a speech about her life and the changes she witnessed over her many years in North Dakota.

Margaret is survived by many nieces, nephews, and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Raymond and Oliver Evenson, her sister, Dorothy Radig, and a nephew, John Radig.
