Edith L. Berg, 97, of Pelican Rapids, MN passed away on Friday, September 12, 2014 at Pelican Valley Health Care, Pelican Rapids, MN. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, September 17, at 2:00 PM at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND with Rev. Sean Daenzer officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Wahpeton. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND.
Edith was born on September 21, 1916 at Barney, ND to Phineas and Sarah (VanCuren) McLaughlin. Edith's mother passed away when she was ten years old and she was raised by Nick and Minnie Wawers in Breckenridge, MN. Minnie passed away in 1929. She attended school in Dwight, ND. After her schooling she did housework for various homes in the area.
Edith was united in marriage to Alfred Berg in Wahpeton, ND on December 31, 1940. The couple lived in Colfax, ND for eight years and then moved to Barney where she lived until 1962. She worked in Breckenridge for a short time and then she moved to Pelican Rapids where she lived the rest of her life. She was employed with West Central Turkeys for nine year until she retired at 65 years. During her retirement she volunteered at the Helping Hands Store in Pelican Rapids.
Edith was a member of Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in Pelican Rapids. She enjoyed both vegetable and flower gardening, sewing, and knitting.
Edith is survived by her son, Howard (Barbara) Berg, Osakis, MN; daughter-in-law, Vernice Berg, Albany, MN; grandchildren, Michael Berg, Albany, MN, Douglas Berg, Sartell, MN, Eric (Glenda) Watry, Shakopee, MN, Steven (Joanne) Berg, Vancouver, WA, Richard (Shevawn) Berg, Andover, MN, David (Cassandra) Berg, St. Paul, MN; eighteen great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren, sister, Opal Harvego, Breckenridge, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Alfred Berg, son, Clayton Berg, grandson, Brian Berg, four sisters, Flossie Anderson, Alma Muehler, Ethlin Coburn, Lillie Johnson, three half-sisters, Alice Johnsrud, Mary Ellen Dorrow, Myrtle "Mary" Solyntjes, and two half-brothers, George Slattery, and Maurice Slattery.
