Elaine Sanden, 93, Breckenridge, MN formerly of Barney, ND passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at her residence at Twin Town Villa under the care of her family and CHI-Health at Home-Hospice. Funeral services will be on Monday, May 23, at 10:00 AM at Wyndmere Lutheran Church, Wyndmere, ND with Rev. Harvey Henderson officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday from 5 PM to 7 PM with a 7 PM prayer service at Wyndmere Lutheran Church. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton, ND. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to CHI-Health at Home-Hospice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND.

Elaine Amanda Sanden was born on November 29, 1922 the daughter of Henry and Hilda (Gollnick) Bohn in Great Bend, ND. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Great Bend and grew up and attended school in Brandenburg Township. She graduated from Wahpeton High School in 1940 and went on to attend NDSCS for a Secretarial Certificate. She worked for the Richland County ASC Office and later the Richland County Auditor's office until 1943.

Elaine was united in marriage to Glennis Sanden on September 28, 1943 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend. At this point she started the most important time in her life, her partnership with Glennis in raising their three sons and helping him on the farm. During those years, she also did bookkeeping for Ferrell's Clothing in Wahpeton for 7 years and Gutzmer Construction in Barney for 3 years. They farmed until they retired in 1981. After retirement, Elaine and Glennis spent the winters in Arizona until 1987 when Glennis had a stroke and Elaine became his faithful caretaker until he passed away on July 31, 1999. Elaine continued to live on the farm until November, 2008 when she moved to Wahpeton.

Elaine is a member of Wyndmere Lutheran Church and WELCA where she was a past Sunday School teacher. She was also a charter member of the Barney VFW Auxiliary and a former member of the Elkettes, C400 member and the SSS 300 Club. Elaine enjoyed being with friends of which included books because she loved to read. She also enjoyed bowling, golf, and playing cards. The greatest love of her life was her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she will be greatly missed by all of them.

Elaine is survived by her son, Robert (Patrticia) Sanden, Barney, ND; her six grandchildren, Kateri (Matt) Gentles, San Diego, CA, Jessaca (Chris) Hastings, Brainerd, MN, Josh (Renee) Sanden, Garfield, MN, Joseph (Bree) Sanden, Alexandria, MN, Jenna (TJ) Bohn, Minnetonka, MN, Jaclyn (Dan) Shultis, Fargo, ND; her 17 great-grandchildren, Sierra and David Gentles, Lance, Audrey, and Martin Hastings, Ella, John, Ryan, Lucy, and Mara Sanden, Slater and Glennis Sanden, Scarlett Bohn, Carson, Mike, Nick, and Emma Shultis; and her sister, Eunice Hackey, Fargo, ND.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Hilda Bohn, her husband, Glennis, and her two sons, Gerald and David Sanden.
