Elizabeth Stromberg

September 6, 1931 — November 18, 2025

Elizabeth "Betty" Stromberg, 94, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, surrounded by family.. A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 21, 2025, at 4 PM, with visitation one hour before, at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home. Pastor Al Werth will officiate.

Betty was born on September 6, 1931, in Clear Lake, Iowa. She was the beloved daughter of Marie (Nielsen) and Pete Jorgensen. During her childhood, the family moved to Hope, North Dakota, where she grew up on a family farm. It was there, in Hope, that she met Max Stromberg, who would become her lifelong partner and companion.

After marrying, she and Max settled in Wahpeton, where they raised their five children. Family was the heart of her world. She cherished her children and grandchildren deeply, taking immense pride in each of them. Whether cheering them on, sharing her wisdom, or simply enjoying their company, she poured her love into her family, creating a legacy of warmth, strength, and togetherness.

She was endearingly known as “Grandma Betty” to many, not just her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but to all of their friends and companions as well. Betty was, and her memory will remain, the guiding light of her family.

She also carried with her the spirit of her Danish heritage - strong, resilient, grounded, and full of quiet determination. Her inner strength was truly inspirational and admirable.

Betty enjoyed golfing on warm summer days, tending to her garden, playing cards and enjoying coffee with friends, and gathering with family. She loved baking and cooking and was an incredible host for Thanksgiving and Christmas for many years.

Her faith was an essential part of who she was. A devoted Lutheran, she was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she nurtured lifelong friendships and lived out her values of kindness, service, and community.

Those who knew her will remember her warm personality, her Danish strength, and the way she made others feel welcomed and cherished. She lived a life defined by love, friendship, and resilience, leaving a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Betty is survived by her children, Sharon Ponik, Bill (Cathy) Stromberg, and Tim (Renee) Stromberg; grandchildren, Nick (Crystal) Stromberg and Abby (Kelly) Carlson; great-grandchildren, Max, Sasha, Adyson, Braxton, Kamdyn, Madylan, Kailyn, and Ashley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Max; sons, Curtis and James; and grandson, Louis West.
