Elsie Griffith

Elsie Griffith, 94, Wahpeton, ND, formerly of Galchutt, ND passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at Essentia Health, Fargo, ND. Funeral Mass will be on Monday, December 1, at 10:30 AM at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Mooreton, ND with Rev. Peter Anderl officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4 PM to 7 PM with a prayer vigil at 6 PM at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be at St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery, Mooreton, ND. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.

Elsie was born January 20, 1920, the daughter of John and Mary (Jarmer) Fink. She grew up in Antelope Township where she attended grade school and graduated from Antelope Consolidated High School in 1937. She was united in marriage to John A. Griffith on June 14, 1944, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Mooreton. The couple farmed and raised their four children west of Galchutt. John passed away November 9, 1977; Elsie continued to live on the farm until moving into Wahpeton in1999.

Elsie was a longtime member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, Foresters, and had taught CCD. She volunteered for over 20 years at St. Francis gift shop and also at St. Catherine's. She enjoyed traveling and spending weekends during the summers at Ottertail Lake, MN. In her spare time Elsie liked to garden and do needle work.

Elsie is survived by her son and three daughters: Jeanette (Larry) Miller, Wahpeton; Patricia Griffith, Galchutt; James (Renee) Griffith, Colfax; Shirley (David) Breuer, Colfax; twelve grandchildren: Chad (Darcy) Miller, Christi (Ryan) Thielke, Cody (Heather) Miller; Brandon (Elyce) Griffith, Tracee (Jason) Kelsch, Leigh (Angie) Griffith, Marissa Griffith (Mike Anderson, fiancé) , Jenna (Matt) Smaby, Jon (Brittany) Griffith; Kimberly (Ryan) Bomstad, Kyle Breuer, Kathleen Breuer (Jay Bachman, fiance'); and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John; three brothers: John, Fred and William Fink; four sisters: Mary Erbes, Agnes Erbes, Adelaide Haberman, and Augusta Merry.
