Ervin Eichhorn

Ervin J. Eichhorn, 86, of Wahpeton, ND passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at CHI St. Francis Healthcare, Breckenridge, MN. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at St. John's Catholic Church, Wahpeton, with Rev. Dale Lagodinski as officiant. Visitation will be on Monday, September 5, 2016 from 5 pm to 7 pm with a 7 pm prayer vigil at St. John's Catholic Church, and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Wahpeton. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.

Ervin was born on August 29, 1930 near Sonora, ND to Floyd and Clara (Berg) Eichhorn. He grew up and attended school in Devillo Township. After his education he began working for Chris Krump and built six barns in the southern Richland County area.

Ervin was united in marriage to Dorothy Roob on June 9, 1953 at St. John's Catholic Church in Rosholt, SD. The couple moved to Wahpeton in 1954 where Ervin worked for Novetzke Lumber until he was injured in 1962. While he recovered from his injury, he attended NDSCS and received a degree in Architectural Drafting. He then started working for Valley Realty as a construction foreman until 1977 when he had to retire due to another injury. Ervin and Dorothy enjoyed spending their summers at Wall Lake, near Fergus Falls, MN. Dorothy passed away on December 29, 1995.

Ervin continued to spend time at the lake and met Marilyn Larsen at the Fergus Falls VFW and they were married on October 23, 1999 at Elbow Lake, MN. They have spent the rest of their years together at the lake until 2013 when they moved full time in Wahpeton.

Ervin loved to do crafts, both ceramic and wood. He was proud of his big gardens and enjoyed fishing and dancing. He was also known to bring a few things home from auctions and rummage sales.

Ervin is survived by his wife, Marilyn, Wahpeton; his children, Mary (Greg) Gerou, Wahpeton, Patricia (Paul) Bretheim, Minot, ND, Don (Karen) Eichhorn, Wahpeton, John (Sandy) Eichhorn, Wahpeton; his grandchildren, Jamye (Jason) Otkin, Michael (Kristi) Gerou, Shonda (Nick) Gydesen, Eric Bretheim, Brian (Sarah) Eichhorn, Dan Eichhorn, Amber Eichhorn, and Heather Eichhorn; his nine great-grandchildren; Marilyn's children, Lucinda (Rick) Smith, Signal Hill, CA, Galen (Sharon) Larsen and Brent (Karla) Larsen both of Elbow Lake, MN; Marilyn's six grandchildren and one great-grandchild; his sisters-in-law, Agnes Eichhorn, Breckenridge, MN, Rhonda Eichhorn, Jamestown, ND; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Dorothy, his two brothers, LuVerne and Melvin, and two sisters, Elinor Anderson, and Evelyn Wieser; and Marilyn's son, Jerris Larsen.
