Ethel Aarhus

June 6, 1913 — July 19, 2010

Ethel Christensen, daughter of Andrew and Emma (Larson) Christensen, was born June 6, 1913 at Everest, ND. In July 1914, the Christensen family moved to Manitoba , Canada where they lived until 1925 when they returned to North Dakota . In the fall of 1930 they moved to the Martin Mathiason farm in Nansen Township . It was then that Lewis met Ethel and they were married in September, 1933 at Dwight. They moved to the Sundall farm across the road from his parents.





Ethel was a member of Walcott Lutheran Church . She was actively involved in WELCA, mission quilting, was a Sunday School teacher and thoroughly enjoyed participating in assembling church bulletins. She was also a member of the Legion Auxiliary of Walcott.





Ethel loved to read, sew, entertain her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cooking and baking for others, and gatherings of family and friends. Her greatest accomplishment was being a wonderful, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.





Ethel will always be remembered and deeply missed by her daughters, Marilyn Jordheim, Walcott, ND, Ellen Manske, Ontario, CA, Julie (Dean) Schultes, Olivia, MN; her son-in-law, Norman Young, Sykeston, ND; her sister, Maybelle Leopoldt, Jamestown, ND; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.





She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis on July 26, 1984; her parents, Andrew and Emma Christensen; her daughter, Donna Young; her grandchildren, Larry Young and Cheryl Jordheim; her sons-in-law, Curtis Jordheim and William Manske; and three brothers and one sister.





A special thank you to Hospice of the Red River Valley , Pastor Sarah Larsen Tade of Walcott, and many friends and family members for their support.





In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Hospice of the Red River Valley , Walcott Lutheran Church , or Stearns Cemetery , Colfax.
