Ethel Wurl

Ethel Wurl, 95, Wahpeton, ND passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at CHI-St. Francis Health, Breckenridge, MN. Funeral services will be on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at 10:30 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton, with Rev. Matthew Tooman officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 5 PM to 7 PM with a prayer service at 5:30 PM at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Interment will be at Immanuel Cemetery, Hankinson, ND. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.

Ethel was born on June 10, 1921 to Herman and Justine (Stoltenow) Gehler in Great Bend, ND. She grew up and attended school in the Great Bend area and attended high school in Wahpeton and also attended Beauty School in Fargo.

Ethel was united in marriage to Ralph Wurl on June 30, 1940 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend. The couple farmed in the Hankinson area until they moved to Wahpeton in 1961. Ethel worked for various places in Wahpeton but most memorable was when she worked for Wahpeton Drug and then working for the Bookstore/Mailroom at NDSCS. She retired in 1984 due to health reasons. Ralph passed away on December 29, 2006 and Ethel continued to live on her own until 2013 when she became a resident of the Leach Home.

Ethel was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wahpeton and enjoyed traveling with Ralph to see their children and doing woodworking with Ralph. She also enjoyed bowling, playing cards, baking and embroidery.

Ethel will be greatly missed by her daughters, Marcy Buck, Fairmount, ND, Cheryl (Dennis) Ehlers, Coon Rapids, MN, Marlene Walters, Grand Forks, ND, Pamela (Dan) Brown, Gloucester, NC; her grandchildren, Kari (Gary) Hubrig, Karla (Rick) Ogilvie, Todd (Mariah) Buck, Kara (Jamie) Bernard, Guy Ehlers, Shelly (Todd) DeBaker, Daniel (Erin) Walters, Darin (Beth) Walters, Kyle (Sydney Doyle, Fiancée) Breuer, Jessica Breuer; her 27 great grandchildren; her great-great granddaughter; and her sister-in-law, Phylain Bladow, Hankinson, ND.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Justine Gehler, her husband, Ralph Wurl, her son, Lyle Wurl, her grandchildren, Kalynne Buck, Glen and Gary Ehlers, Jay and Eric Breuer; her great grandson, Michael Breuer, her brothers, Ewald and Theodore Gehler, her sisters, Lena Fenske, Bertha Boehning, Alma Hoefs, and Lille Witt, and her sons-in law, James Walters and Mervin Buck.
