Eugene Erbes

Eugene Raymond Erbes, 79, of Barney, ND went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, October 14, 2016 in his home surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. His funeral service will be held at 10:30 am, on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Mooreton, ND with Rev. Peter Anderl officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with a prayer service at 7:00 pm at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Burial will take place at St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery, Mooreton. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND.
Gene was born October 3, 1937, son of George and Agnes (Fink) Erbes. He graduated from Antelope Township school, probably top of his class. ;) On September 7, 1968 he married his one and only love, Sherry (Eiler) Erbes. Together, they made the big trek one half of a mile (on the dirt road) to the homestead that they shared for the next 48 years where they raised their six children.
A man of great faith, Gene was a lifelong member of St. Anthony's Church of Mooreton. He retired from his deep-rooted passion for farming in 2000 after which he worked at the Colfax Elevator until last year. Gene was a member of several organizations, including Knights of Columbus, Eagles, Elks, the parish council, and Farmer's Union Board of Directors.
Gene enjoyed traveling the country side delivering oysters and visiting with his family and a multitude of friends, along with fishing, watching sports, and laughing with his loved ones.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 48 years, Sherry (Rabbit), sons, Marc (Little Indian) and his fiancé Kim (Skimberly), Roger (Wells) and his wife Janelle (Nellie) both of West Fargo, ND, David (Buckwheat) and his wife Amber (Ambie) of Mapleton, ND; daughters, Cristina (Mousey) and her husband Jeffrey (Jeff) Hieb, Aberdeen, SD and Jennifer (Birdie) and her husband Josh (Poncho) Mjoness, Christine, ND; grandchildren, Aurora (Rory), Ayreal (Runty), Gabriel (Pi**-ant), Zach (Sh**-shoveler), Jasmine (Longhaired Indian), Nate (Nater-Serrater), Nick (Bushdoggy), Jacob (Outboard), Grayson (Grayfox), Jonathon (Inboard), Breylon (Bubba), Spencer (Spicer), Brooks (Brooksy), Briggs (Briggsy), Jax (Little Jackson), Lincoln (Nixon), and Andrew (Anderson Cooper); brothers, Edmund (Eileen) Erbes, Fargo, ND and Dale (Mary) Erbes, Barney; sister, LeAnn (LeRoy) Juve; and brother-in-law, Donald Kub, West Fargo.
He was surely overjoyed to be welcomed into God's Kingdom by his son, Brian (Jiggers). Also welcoming him are his parents, and his sister, Irene Kub.
We Love You Dad and you will be forever missed. Thank you for teaching us how to love each other and to laugh.
