Evelyn Williams

Evelyn “Evy” Williams, 98, of Wahpeton, ND, and formerly of Barney, ND, passed away November 25, 2017, at Valley Eldercare Center in Grand Forks, ND.

Evelyn Throndset was born February 17, 1919, on the family farm near Union, ND, to Peter and Julia (Grinager) Throndset.  She grew up and attended school in the Union area and graduated from Milton High School. She attended Mayville Teachers College and taught two years near Union. She worked as a bookkeeper in Washington, DC & Chicago for two years before returning to North Dakota.  Evy met her sweetheart, John B. Williams, and they were married December 3, 1944, in Grand Forks, ND. They moved to the Barney, ND, area where John had grown up and farmed for a few years. In 1952, they moved in to Barney where they had a home that was always welcoming to their many friends and relatives that came to visit. After John’s passing in 2002, Evy moved to Fourth Avenue Manor in Wahpeton before living at St. Francis Nursing Home in Breckinridge and Valley Eldercare in Grand Forks, ND.

Evy loved gardening and raising flowers in her yard. She also loved playing cards and was very patient when teaching the younger generation.  She always had a smile on her face and was so thankful for her family. She was an active member of the VFW Post Auxiliary, 4-H, United Methodist Women Society and Evergreen United Methodist Church in Wahpeton.

Evy is survived by two special nephews: Dennis (Carol) Throndset of Langdon, ND and Lauren (Linda) Niles of Estherville, IA along with 21 nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and great-nephews. She was the last survivor of her family. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband John, and siblings: Netty Blackburn, Pearl Swensrud, Robert Throndset, James Throndset, Percy Throndset and Delores Ralston.

Memorials may be directed to  Antelope Cemetery Association.

A celebration of life for Evy will be Tuesday, 11:00 am, at Evergreen United Methodist Church, Wahpeton, ND, with Rev. Jen Tyler officiating.  Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Interment will be at Antelope Cemetery, rural Mooreton, ND. Arrangements have been entrusted with Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND.
