In May 1949 she moved to Wahpeton, ND, working in restaurants until 1950, when she was employed by Gleason Variety Store. In 1952 she was united in marriage to David C. Hestdalen, of Abercrombie, ND. They moved to New Mexico, and two children were born of this union.

She returned to the Wahpeton area in 1955. She joined Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wahpeton, and became a confirmed member on March 23, 1959 by Rev. Henry Fry. In 1960 she married Ralph O. A.
