Floyd Morken

August 17, 1920 — June 27, 2014

Floyd H. Morken, 93, Breckenridge, MN, passed away Friday, June 27, 2014 at St. Francis Healthcare Campus, Breckenridge, MN, after a brief battle with cancer surrounded by his family. The Celebration of Life Service will be Thursday, 11:00 a.m., at Willow Creek Chapel, Wahpeton, with visitation one hour before the service. Rev. Dale Lagodinski will be officiating. Military Honors by Wahpeton Military Unit and ND Military Honors Program. Arrangements have been entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.

Floyd Harold Morken was born to John and Christine (Lokken) Morken on August 17, 1920, at Christine, ND. He attended Richland Eagle No. 5 until 1934. He worked for neighboring farmers until January, 1943, when he entered the US Navy, serving during World War II, until being honorably discharged in November, 1946. He married Jeanne Picotte on October 13, 1948 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Fargo, ND. They made their home near Kent, MN, where they farmed until they moved to Wolverton, MN and later to Breckenridge, MN. In October of 1965 he started working at NDSCS in Wahpeton and worked there for 32 years, retiring in 1997. He has lived at Twin Town Villa in Breckenridge, MN, since August 2007.

Floyd was a member of the Wahpeton Eagles Arie No. 2749 and was a lifetime member of the Hafner-Miller-Ross American Legion Post No. 20 and Wahpeton VFW Post 4324.

Floyd is survived by his children: Patricia Deike and her children, Tricia Kummer and Chad (Hilary) Deike, all of Ames, IA; Harvey (Mary) Morken and their children, Joseph (Robin) Morken and Jason Morken, all of Casselton, ND; Pamela (Michael) Dohman, Breckenridge, MN, their children, Jennifer (Bryan) Klabunde, Waubun, MN and Erik (Meghan) Dohman, Breckenridge, MN; and Penelope "Penny" (Richard) Leinen, Wahpeton, ND and their children, Samantha (Chris) Wallace, Kent, MN, Thomas Leinen and Andrew Leinen, Wahpeton, ND; 10 great grandchildren; two sisters, Hilda Vogeler, Galchutt, ND; and Erma Hendrickson, Moorhead, MN; brother-in-law, Prince Baier and sister-in-law, Millie (Morken) Bevre; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his former wife, his brothers, Joseph, Orvin, Carl and Waldo; sisters, Carrie Baier and Inga Johnson.

Floyd has bequeathed his body to the School of Medical and Health Sciences at UND. Final resting place will be at the Richland Lutheran Cemetery, rural Walcott, ND. The family would like to thank the Twin Town Villa staff and residents for their wonderful care and support these past seven years, as well as the St. Francis Healthcare Campus and Hospice for their care the past two weeks.
