Genevieve Reubish

April 5, 1918 — April 21, 2017

Genevieve (Miller) Reubish passed away peacefully at age 99 on April 21, 2017 surrounded by loved ones. Gen was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was a devoted wife and parent, an avid reader, a lover of American history and a master of crossword puzzles well into her 90's. A talented cook, her relatives and friends always enjoyed her wonderful meals and baking – especially her raisin cookies.

Gen was born and raised in Tyler, North Dakota. Following her graduation from Wahpeton High School, she pursued a career in nursing at St. Cloud Hospital School of Nursing in St. Cloud, Minnesota, graduating in 1939.

Gen Miller and Irving Reubish were married on April 18, 1940 in Morris, Minnesota. During the early years of their marriage, Gen and her son John crisscrossed the country during Irving's participation in the war effort, living in Oregon, Rhode Island and California. Following the war, Irving and Gen took over the Tyler General Store from her parents, Cecilia and Orren Miller. She played the role of storekeeper, bookkeeper and postmaster. They ran the Tyler store until 1958. Gen was very proud of her Tyler heritage, and was intimately involved in the planning of the successful Tyler Centennial Celebration (held in 1988).

In the late 50's, Gen returned to nursing, working at the Wahpeton Rehabilitation Center (later known as St. Catherine's Living Center). She would rise to the position of Director of Nursing, and later held the position of Director of Medical Records. Gen retired from the Rehab Center in 1993.

Gen was preceded in death by Irving, her husband of 44 years, and her son, Gary. She is survived by her son, John Reubish, daughter-in-law, Karen Reubish, three grandchildren, Scott (Ann) Reubish, Jeffrey (Kari) Reubish and Lisa (David) Buchanan, nine great-grandchildren, Rose, Charlie, Ella & Kate Reubish, Anna, Joseph & Jacob Reubish, and Ruby & William Buchanan, and many nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to the staff at St. Catherine's for the thoughtful care she received, especially in her final days.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 26 at 11 AM at St. John's Catholic Church in Wahpeton, with Rev. Dale Lagodinski officiating. Mass will be preceded by a visitation at 9:30 AM with a rosary at 10 AM. Burial will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. John's Catholic Church or the St. Catherine's Chapel Fund.
