Gerald (Jerry) Bommersbach, Wahpeton, ND passed away on Friday, March 29, 2024, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND at the age of 81. Visitation will be from 9:00 am – 10:30 am on Thursday, April 4th, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Wahpeton, ND. Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 am at St. John’s Catholic Church, where Jerry was a member for 55 years. Father Paul Kuhn will officiate. Arrangements have been entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home.
Jerry was born on November 19, 1942, in Oakes, ND to Ray and Eleanor (Kulzer) Bommersbach. He lived in various locations with his parents until 12 years of age when they moved to Wyndmere, ND. Jerry graduated from Wyndmere High School in 1961. After graduation, he began his career with the Northern Pacific Railroad. He then enlisted in the US Navy in October of 1961 where he served on the USS Enterprise Aircraft Carrier until 1966 when he received an Honorable Discharge. He then returned to his career with the railroad. He worked for 36 years and retired from the Burlington Northern Railroad in 1997.
Jerry was united in marriage to Sharon Huseth on November 2, 1968. Jerry and Sharon moved to Wahpeton where they made their home raising two sons, Jeff and Mike. After retirement, Jerry volunteered at the food pantry and drove Med Van for 22 years.
Jerry enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing with his sons, grandchildren and family. Some of Jerry’s best times were spent at their lake cabin on Walker Lake. He adored being with his grandchildren. He loved to work in his yard both in Wahpeton and at the Lake.
Jerry will be sorely missed by his wife Sharon of 55 years, son, Jeff (Caryn) Bommersbach and their sons Eric and Adam; Mike (Julie) Bommersbach and their children Brody and Ella; his mother Eleanor Bommersbach, siblings Julie Berg, Paul Bommersbach (Jane Honer), Marie (Don) Kratcha, Greg Bommersbach, and Patsy Stein. Sister-in-laws Beverly Runcorn and Sandy (Jim) Post; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ray Bommersbach, his grandparents, and brothers-in-law, Bill Runcorn and Willard Stein.
