Gerald Simdorn

Gerald Simdorn, 76, Mooreton, ND passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at St. Francis Healthcare Campus, Breckenridge , MN . The Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 4, at Peace Lutheran Church , Barney , ND , with Rev. Morris W. Stephens Jr., officiating. Visitation will be 5 PM to 8 PM with a 7 PM prayer service at Willow Creek Chapel, Wahpeton and one hour before the service at the church. Interment will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens , Wahpeton. Arrangements have been entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND.

Gerald was born March 31, 1934, the son of William and Ada (Thiel) Simdorn. He attended local schools and graduated from Wyndmere High School . He served in the US Army from 1953 to 1955, during the Korean War. After the service he returned to the Barney area and farmed with his father. He was united in marriage to Carol Breuer on October 3, 1957 at Mooreton , ND . Gerald’s father died in 1959, and his family moved to the home farm. He retired in 1990 and they moved into Mooreton.

Gerald was a lifetime member of Barney VFW. In his youth he played baseball and boxed in Golden Gloves. He enjoyed making log buildings near Park Rapids, MN. He played guitar for Rup’s Gorillas for 17 years.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Carol, Mooreton; his son Scott (Netty) Simdorn, Otter Tail Lake, MN; his daughter, Yvonne (Tom) Mauch, Fargo, ND; seven grandchildren: Justin, Brandon, David Mauch; Noah Simdorn, Nichole Hager, Brian and Dustin Haan; his sister, Yvonne (E.O.) Lindquist, Palm Springs, CA; his brother, Norman (Evenal) Simdorn, Portland, OR.
