Glen Medenwaldt

August 4, 1939 — August 23, 2008









Glen W. Medenwaldt, beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and uncle, 69, North Smithfield, Rhode Island, formerly of Wahpeton, ND, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, August 23, 2008, at his residence. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 27 at Immanuel Lutheran Church , Wahpeton with Rev. Alan R. Werth officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer service at Willow Creek Chapel ( 920 3 rd Avenue North ) Wahpeton; also, visitation Wednesday one hour prior to service at the church. Interment will be held in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery , rural Mandan , ND , which is a special place to Glen and other fellow Guardsman, as the Wahpeton National Guard Unit were involved in the construction of the cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by the VFW Post No. 707 and the American Legion Post No. 40, both of Mandan , ND .





Glen Walter Medenwaldt was born on August 4, 1939, in Great Bend , ND to Alfred and Grace (Ziegelman) Medenwaldt. He was baptized by Pastor J. P. Klausler on August 13, 1939, at the home of his grandparents in Great Bend . He was confirmed by Pastor Gerhard Michael on April 11, 1954 at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church , Hankinson , ND . He attended Hankinson High School and received his diploma from Alameda , CA in 1960. On May 29, 1960, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Doris Elaine Silvernail by Pastor Lloyd Nelson at Milnor Lutheran church, Milnor , ND . Glen had a deep love for his country and served for 20 years; USMC from 1958-1961, US National Guard from 1977-1994. He graduated from NDSCS with a Plumbing/Heating/Cooling degree in 1973. He worked in the Heating Plant at the NDSCS for more than 30 years, retiring in March of 2003. Glen loved fishing, gun and bow hunting, bowling and horseshoes, winning many awards over his lifetime. He was a proud life-time member of the Three-Rivers Archery and a member of the Woody KeebleVFW Post No 4324, Wahpeton. He was active in his younger years in the church choir, and as a Sunday School Teacher. He will be sadly missed by his loving family.





He is survived by his wife, Doris, North Smithfield, RI; 5 children, Kathy (Michael) LaFlamme, North Smithfield, RI, Sandra (Bryan) Morrison, Red Lake Falls, MN, Kristi (Bob) Lemoine, Chepachet, RI, Cheryl (Rob) Albano, Queensbury, NY, Jason Medenwaldt, Ft. Walton Beach, FL; 11 grandchildren, Rick (Michelle) LaFlamme, Ryan and Brittany LaFlamme, Bryce Morrison, Brianna (Ben) Waterloo, Torie and Madison Lemoine, Kira, Kayla and Blake Albano, Wyatt Medenwaldt; his mother, Grace Medenwaldt, Hankinson, ND; 2 sisters, Gayle Ahrens, Wheaton, MN, Gloria (Joe) Smith, Missouri; and his brother, Alfred ‘Alfie’, Wahpeton.





He was preceded in death by his father; his maternal grandparents, Adolf and Dora (Gast) Ziegelman, and his fraternal grandparents, Frank and Bertha (Pankow) Medenwaldt.
