Gloria Joerg

Gloria Joerg, 86, of Fairmount, ND, formerly Milwaukee, WI passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at St. Catherine’s Living Center, Wahpeton, ND.  Visitation will be held on Friday, May 11, 2018 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, followed by the funeral service at 1:00 pm at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.  Burial will be at Fairmount Cemetery.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.

Gloria Lina Hedtke was born on April 3, 1931 in Fairmount, ND to George and Lina (Steffens) Hedtke.  She grew up and attended school in Fairmount, graduating high school in 1949.  Gloria married Richard Miller in 1950 and the couple eventually made their home in Milwaukee, WI, raising their five children.  She later decided to return to college in Milwaukee to become a Licensed Practical Nurse.  Gloria worked at several different nursing homes and at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee over the course of 28 years.

Gloria later married John Joerg in 1981.  The two made their home in Milwaukee and later retired to Greendale, WI.

Gloria returned to her hometown of Fairmount in November of 2012, residing with her two daughters and her dear grandchild, Dakota Miller.

During World War II Gloria became pen pals with Sylvia, a young girl who lived in London.  The two became very close friends and each took several trips overseas to visit each other’s families.  She loved to travel, and visited several other countries during her lifetime.  Gloria also enjoyed creating stained glass artwork, shopping for bargains, enjoying a glass of wine, and was a state appointed volunteer for over 25 years.

Gloria is survived by her five children, Kathleen Patterson, Kevin (Katherine) Miller, David (Kathleen) Miller, Deanna Miller, and Kurt Miller; her siblings, Roberta Boll, Lorraine Church, Georgina Leinen, Jeanette (Don) Peterson, Randall (Karen) Hedtke, Delwin (Hope) Hedtke, and Emily (Darrell) Schillinger; seven grandchildren, Crystal (Scott) Sinift, Amanda (Javier) Madril, Chauntel Patterson, Chad (Tiffany) Patterson, Erik (Meghan) Miller, Cody Miller, and Dakota Miller; seven great-grandchildren, Jake and Luke Sinift, JD and Maya Madril, Emiliah McDaniel, and Alice and Kennedy Miller; her dear friends Darlene Vanek and Judy Witkowski; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Lina Hedtke; a brother, Harvey Hedtke; husband, Richard Miller; and husband, John Joerg.
