John "Dale" Poppen

John "Dale" Poppen, 64, of Wahpeton, ND, passed away Friday, June 23, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.  His funeral service will take place at Evergreen Methodist Church on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at 1 p.m., with visitation one hour prior.  Burial to take place at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Wahpeton.  Sandy Olson will officiate.

John “Dale” Poppen was born in Breckenridge, MN, to George and Mary (Blahna) Poppen on May 19, 1959.  He attended school in Wyndmere, ND, from where he would graduate high school.  After graduation, Dale attended NDSU for Agriculture Economics.

On December 9, 1991, he married Diane Dohman at Kahuku Methodist Church, on the North Shore of Oahu in Hawaii.  The couple would then make their home in Wahpeton, where they would raise their two boys, and Dale would continue farming with his father on the family farm.  Dale’s love of the land kept him farming for over 40 years.

Dale enjoyed many things in life, but hunting with his sons and spending time on Ottertail Lake with family were at the top of his list.

Dale is survived by his wife, Diane; sons, Michael and John; siblings, Sandra (Tony) Vetter, Dennis (Susan) Poppen, Charles (Kim) Poppen, Mary Jolene Gramm; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary.
