Julie Katherine (Breuer) Aakre, 62, was born on November 12, 1963, to Jeanette (Kurtz) and Francis (Manny) Breuer in Breckenridge, MN. She was raised in Mooreton, ND. She passed away peacefully on March 2, 2026, in her home in Wahpeton, ND, surrounded by family. Julie attended Mooreton Elementary until the 6th grade. Upon completion, she attended Wahpeton High School, where she graduated in 1982. She attended college at NDSCS in Wahpeton.
Julie was married to Kelly Aakre on November 23, 1985. They built their home outside of Great Bend, ND, where they raised their three boys, Matthew and Twins Nicholas and Nathan, until Kelly's passing. She later shared her life with longtime partner Fred Johnson in Wahpeton, ND. Together, they helped raise her beloved grandchildren, Mia, Brody, and Bentley. She was a steady, loving presence in their lives and cherished every moment with them. She was a devoted mother to her children. She loved watching her boys play sports and could always be found cheering them on. She lived for her kids and grandkids. They were her whole world. Julie loved watching and taking her children and grandchildren fishing, making memories that will be treasured forever. She truly loved celebrating life—whether it was a holiday, a milestone, or simply being together as a family.
Julie had a true gift for creating and decorating. She worked at Buds n' Blossoms, where she designed beautiful floral arrangements and décor for countless weddings and special occasions. She later ran her own business, where she continued creating floral arrangements and decorating for weddings and events. Her artistry and eye for detail brought beauty and joy to so many celebrations.
Julie will be remembered for her creativity, her generous heart, and her unwavering devotion to her family. The love she poured into her children and grandchildren will continue to live on through them.
Julie is survived by longtime partner Fred Johnson, her mother Jeanette Breuer of Mooreton, ND; her sisters, Diana Barendt of Mooreton, ND, and Susan (Jesse) Garza of Mission; and her brother, Mike (Kari) Breuer of Colfax, ND. Her children Matthew (Amanda) Aakre of Mandan, Nicholas (Mystery) Aakre of Wahpeton, and Nathan (KC) Aakre of Wahpeton. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Mia, Bentley, Brodie, Destiny, Kaydence, Ahlayna, Theo, and Aubrie.
Julie was preceded in death by Kelly Aakre (Husband), Francis Breuer (Father), Denise Jacklitch (Sister), Stan Jacklitch (Brother-in-law), Harlan Aakre (Father-in-law), and Guy Barendt (Brother-in-law).
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 9, 2026, with visitation from 12:00 – 1:00 pm, followed by the service at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home in Wahpeton.
