It is with a heavy heart, but a smile tucked away for those fantastic memories that we say goodbye to Kelly Sjomeling. Born in Mobridge, SD on December 5, 1973, he spent 51 glorious years making the world a tad brighter, a lot more delicious, and infinitely more entertaining until his adventurous spirit took him to the big fishing hole in the sky on April 30, 2025.
Kelly wasn’t just your average guy—he was the “Best BS'er” you could sit down with for a chat about life, love, and everything in between. He built a career over 28 years at Quanex, where he likely spent just as much time laughing with colleagues as he did working. Kelly had a flair for cooking that would make any culinary superhero jealous. His social media was peppered with mouth-watering pictures of his latest edible creations, proving that he could whip up a mean dish while also racking up smiles and likes from family and friends.
When he wasn’t busy cooking up a storm or spinning tales that would make the most seasoned storyteller envious, you could find him slipping on his fishing boots or grabbing his hunting gear. A lover of the great outdoors, Kelly spent many a day with a fishing rod in hand or out in the wild, living life to its fullest. He even fancied himself quite the trapper back in his younger days, honing skills that would make any outdoorsman proud. He also bore the burden with humorous resolve of being a Chicago Bears fan, despite the heartbreak they often brought to his Sundays.
Kelly wasn’t just great in the wild; he was a formidable force on the pool table and could challenge anyone to an arm wrestling match—yes, even those state champions! Perhaps the most significant achievement in his life, however, was the birth of his pride and joy, his son, Baiden.
His legacy will live on through his family, consisting of his beloved son Baiden, beautiful daughter Chloe, parents Dennis (Debra) Sjomeling and Norma Sjomeling, siblings Brad (Jen) and Amy, as well as nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation on May 12, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by a memorial service celebrating Kelly's fantastic life from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home in Wahpeton, ND.
While Kelly may no longer be with us in body, his laughter, love, and joy will echo in our hearts and memories forever. Fish on, old buddy!
