Lamont Miller

October 11, 1949 — June 26, 2017

Lamont Miller, 67, Fargo, ND, formerly of Wahpeton, ND, passed away on Monday, June 26, 2017 at his residence. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 7, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Bethel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton, ND with Rev. Jim Gustafson officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5 PM to 7 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND.

Lamont Robert Miller was born October 11, 1949 in Hazen, ND to Art & Ione (Sherlock) Miller, Stanton, ND. He grew up in southern California and graduated from American International School of Israel, Tel Aviv, Israel in 1967. He attended college at Dickinson State University, Dickinson, ND, and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Earth Science, Geography, Physical Education and Drivers Education on May, 1973.

Lamont married Linda Weisz on June 4, 1971 in Hazen, ND. Lamont was hired to teach in the Wahpeton Public School District, Wahpeton, ND in 1973 where they made their home and raised two sons. Lamont taught and coached girls and boys basketball at the Middle and High Schools in Wahpeton until he retired from teaching in 2003.

After retirement Lamont was employed at Fargo Running Company for 5 years. He enjoyed visiting with runners of all abilities, and was responsible for opening up the store and making coffee for early 5:30 morning runs.

He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren when they participated in activities. He himself enjoyed running, reading, and trivia (he was often called Cliff Clavin on Cheers).

He is survived by his wife, Linda; two sons, Jason (Sara) Miller and Casey (Christa) Miller; four grandchildren, Madelyn, Beckett, Finley and Harrison Miller. Two brothers; Ronald Miller, Hesperia, CA and Gary (Terry) Miller, Signal Hill, CA and many nieces and nephews.

Lamont was preceded in death by his parents, sisters-in-law Ginny Miller, Deborah Miller, brother-in-law Larry Weisz and nephew/godchild Kelly Miller.
