Larry Kummer, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on February 2, 2026, at his home in the loving presence of family. Born on January 7, 1946, in Breckenridge, MN, Larry lived a life characterized by hard work, determination, and a deep love for his family. His funeral service will take place at Vertin Munson Funeral Home on Monday, February 9, 2026, at 1 PM. Visitation will begin at 11:30 AM. Pastor Jonas Bundy will officiate, assisted by Pastor Mike Adams.
Larry grew up on his family farm near Colfax and graduated from North Central High School in Colfax, ND in 1964. He exemplified the values of commitment and perseverance, further demonstrated during his service in the Army from 1966 to 1969 where he served at the White House Communication Agency.
Larry's professional journey began on the family farm, where he developed a lifelong connection to agriculture. He later transitioned into driving semi-trucks, a career that he embraced until his retirement. In his retirement, Larry continued his love for the farm, blowing snow, mowing grass and caring for the land that he loved.
Larry's love for family was evident in every aspect of his life. On October 22, 1966, he married his high school sweetheart Bonnie (Hermo). Together they raised 3 children. A son, Mark, and daughters Marsha and Katie. He valued the close relationships he had with his brothers, sisters, and extended family. He looked forward to family gatherings and reunions, and the time spent together was important to him.
His role as a grandfather brought him immeasurable happiness. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren's activities and following their successes.
Larry took up running at the age of 60 and completed 11 half marathons and multiple fun runs. Larry embraced the entire racing experience, finding joy in both the races and the family moments they created.
Larry is survived by his wife of 59 years, Bonnie Kummer; his son, Mark Kummer; daughters Marsha (Brad) Flaa and Katie (Cody) Selstedt; grandchildren JoDee (Josh) Deike, Randi (Blake) Seeba, Logan Kummer, Hannah Flaa (Jacob Teigen), Annika Flaa, Mollie Flaa, Milo Selstedt, Max Selstedt, and Macy Selstedt; brother Lynn (Nancy) Kummer, sisters Peg (Don) Viele, Penny (Richard) Wolters and sister-in-law Linda (Hermo) Casey.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Delores (Boyer) Kummer, daughter-in-law Misty Kummer, grandson Anders Flaa, brother-in-law Walter Casey and in-laws Hazel and Orlando Hermo.
Larry Kummer leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and perseverance, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
