Lois Waldera

March 4, 1948 — March 2, 2019

Lois Mae Waldera, age 70, of Wahpeton, ND, passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2019, at CHI St. Francis Healthcare in Breckenridge, MN, after a courageous 8-year battle with breast cancer. Visitation will be Thursday, March 7, 2019, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, with a prayer service at 7:00 pm, at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home in Wahpeton. Visitation will continue Friday, March 8, 2019, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm, followed by the funeral service at 3:00 pm, at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home. Burial will take place at a later date.  Rev. Harvey Henderson will be officiating.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home.

Lois was born on March 4, 1948, to Erling and Iris (Mashek) Fluto, in Breckenridge. She grew up and attended school in Wyndmere, ND, where she graduated high school in 1966.

Lois was united in marriage to Glenn Waldera in June of 1966 in Geneseo, ND, where the couple made their home. From this union they had three children, Jodi, Brad and Brett. In 1970, the family moved to Wahpeton. Lois enjoyed working at Casey’s Bar in Breckenridge for many years and cherished the numerous friendships she made there.

In 1986, Lois’ son Brady was born. She attended NDSCS in 1992 and earned a 2-year degree in medical records. She worked in the medical records field for a brief time in Tracy, MN, Lois later returned to Wahpeton where she worked in retail for Snyder Drug, Loopy’s, and most recently for her daughter Jodi, at Breckenridge Drug for over 15 years, until her retirement. She was very much a “people person”. She enjoyed interacting with the customers and would take any opportunity to visit with them.

Lois loved her family dearly, and especially attending her grandkid’s activities. Lois enjoyed baking and was a great cook; this was evident at every holiday meal that she lovingly made for her family. She would look forward to spending afternoons having coffee with her new friends at Northland Apartments. She enjoyed keeping up with her friends and family on Facebook.

Lois had a soft spot for her pets, and even her children’s pets. She was a NDSU Bison and MN Vikings fan, and liked watching them on TV. Lois was a strong supporter of Relay for Life. Since her diagnosis, she participated in their events for the past 7 years.

Lois is survived by her 4 children: daughter, Jodi ( Mark) Beyer, of Breckenridge, and their children Alison, Nicholas, and Justin; son, Brad (Michele) Waldera, of Detroit Lakes, MN, and their children Peyton, Hunter, Breanna, and Korey; son, Brett (Jodi) Waldera, of West Fargo, ND, and their children Maddie and Zach; son, Brady (Chantelle) Barth, of Wahpeton, and their children Hudson and Hannah; 2 brothers, Don (Kathy) Fluto, of Wyndmere, and Marvin (Diane) Fluto, of Hartford, SD; and sister-in-law, Marlys Fluto, of Granite Falls, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Erling and Iris; brother, James Fluto; and 2 sisters, Elaine Nagel, and LaVay Nogowski.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations be given to the Roger Maris Cancer Center or Relay for Life.
