Lola Hokenson

Lola Hokenson, 95, Wahpeton, ND died on Sunday October 19, 2014 at the St. Catherine's Living Center, Wahpeton, ND. A Celebration of her life will be held on Friday, October 31 at the Bethel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton, ND at 11:00 A.M with Rev. Jim Gustafson officiating.
Burial will be held at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton, ND. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.


Lola Myrtle Hokenson was born on November 17, 1918 in Carson County, South Dakota to Leonard and Louise (Vig) Westby. She attended rural schools attending high school at Mobridge, South Dakota before moving with her family to the Rosholt, SD area in 1935.
On July 2, 1938 she married Spencer Hokenson in Sisseton, SD. The couple moved to Wahpeton, ND in 1941 where they resided until their deaths. Upon Spencer's return from the service in 1945, the couple purchased their first home in Wahpeton, and raised their 3 sons and one daughter. Lola was a homemaker and a wonderful seamstress. Spencer died on August 25, 2007 and Lola continued to reside in Wahpeton, entering St. Catherine's Living Center in August 2007.

She was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Bethel Women's Circle and Rebekah Lodge. She enjoyed spending time with family; especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her children; Edward (Louise) Hokenson, Minnetonka, MN, Stanley (Cary) Hokenson, Bend, OR , David (Lori) Hokenson, Avon, MN and Cheryl Hokenson, Elizabeth, CO., four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Spencer in 2007 and her siblings; Leonard Westby, Amy Smith, Vera Shanahan, Doris Anderson and Cyril Westby.

The family wishes to express its sincere appreciation for the consideration and care provided to their mother during the time of her residence at St. Catherine's.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Spencer and Lola Hokenson Scholarship Fund at North Dakota State College of Science.
