Lorraine Luebke

Lorraine Luebke, 93, of Wahpeton, ND passed away on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at CHI St. Francis Health, Breckenridge, MN. Her funeral service will be at 10:30 am, Monday, November 16, 2015 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton, with Rev. Matthew Tooman officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, with a prayer service at 5:00 pm, Sunday at Willow Creek Chapel, Wahpeton. Burial will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton. Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, have been entrusted with arrangements.
Lorraine Elizabeth Heitkamp was born July 6, 1922 at a farm near Mantador, ND, the daughter of William and Francis (Thiel) Heitkamp, the third of eight children. She grew up near Mantador attending grade school at the local county school. She attended high school in Mantador staying with her uncle and aunt, William and Bertha Theil. During this time she would clean homes, help cook and serve food to the men during threshing season. Lorraine moved with her family to Barney, ND, in 1938, where she met her future husband and love of her life, Fred Luebke. In 1939, Lorraine lost her mother, grandfather and uncle in an auto accident, Lorraine then helped her siblings take care of her ailing father and family. She was united in marriage to Fred Luebke on March 9, 1943, while Fred was home on furlough. He returned to the service while Lorraine continued to help take care of her siblings. Fred returned from the service in November of 1945, and they lived in Barney with Lorraine's two youngest siblings, Duane and Donna.
In 1946, the family moved to Breckenridge, MN, and in 1948 to Wahpeton, ND, having a house moved into town where they lived and raised their four children, to whom Lorraine was a loving and wonderful mother. Lorraine also worked for the Wahpeton School System as a head cook and also cleaning school uniforms from 1961 to 1988. Her husband Fred passed away March 16, 2012. Lorraine continued to live at her home in Wahpeton.
Lorraine was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton. She was an accomplished seamstress; she sewed Girl Scout uniforms, cheerleader outfits, prom, wedding and bridesmaid dresses. She enjoyed playing cards, which she learned to enjoy from her parents and relatives as a child. She was also a den mother for cub scouts and enjoyed crocheting, knitting, bowling, fishing and bingo.
Lorraine is survived by four children and their spouses: Kenneth (Carol) Luebke, Rosholt, SD; Nancy (Bruce) Winterfeldt, Fergus Falls, MN; Peggy (Tom) Strand, Newport, TN; and Steven (Jocelyn) Luebke, Strasburg, ND; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 69 years, Fred, and her brothers: Maurice, Adrian, Duane, and her sisters: JoEllen, Armella, WillaMae and Donna.
