Marcella Loberg

September 17, 1922 — September 21, 2025

Marcella Frances Loberg, 103, of Wahpeton, ND, passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2025.

Marcella was a woman of grit and determination. She was raised during The Great Depression, lived on her own while her fiancee served on the front lines in Italy during WWII, navigated the ups and downs of starting a business in Wahpeton with her husband, and raised seven children.

Marcella was born on September 17, 1922, on a farm near Braddock, ND. She attended a one-room schoolhouse through the seventh grade and graduated from Braddock High School in 1938, at the age of 15. After graduation, she attended the Fargo Business College, after which time she was employed by Corwin Churchill Motors in Fargo, ND, where she met her husband, Cliff.

Marcella and Cliff were married on August 21, 1948, in Braddock, and made their home in Fargo, where Cliff made his career with various car dealerships. After purchasing the Ford dealership in 1959 and founding Cliff Loberg Ford, they moved to Wahpeton, where they spent the rest of their lives.

She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Wahpeton, where she sang in the choir for over 40 years. Homemaking was her life, and she also enjoyed bridge, crossword puzzles, and her association with her sewing club in Fargo for over 60 years.

Marcella is survived by her three sons, and two daughters, Joanne (James) Tiffany, Carlsbad, CA, Richard, Wahpeton, William (Debbie), Wahpeton, Jeffrey (Dawn), Rice, MN, and Mary (Matthew) Forsyth, St. Augustine, FL; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; her sisters Lucille Shea, Bismarck; and sister- in- law Esther Bjore, Wahpeton.

She was preceded in death by her husband Clifford; her sons, Donald and Douglas; her grandson, Ryan; her sisters, Marjorie Eslinger and Eleanor McHale; and her brother, George Bohlin.

Visitation will be on Friday, September 26, 2025, from 5 pm to 7 pm, followed by a prayer service at 7 pm, at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home in Wahpeton. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 10:30 am, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Wahpeton, with visitation one hour before. Fr. Greg Haman will officiate. Burial will be at Horace Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.

Marcella felt strong in her Catholic faith. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. John’s Catholic School in Wahpeton, where her seven children, and some of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren attended.

She will be remembered for her sense of style and youthful appearance to the end of her days.
