Marie Laurel Krause passed away peacefully on July 26, 2025, in Wahpeton, ND, surrounded by her husband and two daughters.
Marie was born on December 31, 1947, in Wahpeton, ND, to Arthur and Edigna “Toots” (Dauer) Raeder. Being the oldest of five girls, Marie helped care for her younger sisters as they grew up.
Marie attended St. John’s Catholic School and graduated from Wahpeton High School in 1966. Shortly after high school, Marie met Charles Krause at a dance at the pavilion in Breckenridge, MN. They were united in marriage on May 11, 1968, at St. John’s Catholic Church. They made their home in Wahpeton, where they raised their two daughters, Jana and Jennifer.
Marie started working as a telephone operator at Northwestern Bell Telephone when she was a senior in High School. When they went out of business 15 years later, Marie started working as the office manager at Murphy Motor Freight and later ended her career doing the passion she loved most as a baker at a variety of local businesses. The role she was most proud of was raising her girls and celebrating their accomplishments with them.
Marie was thoughtful, caring, kind, and had a witty sense of humor. She found joy in reading, making her famous mints and cakes for weddings, graduations, and birthdays, cooking, doing craft projects, watching Days of Our Lives and Nascar, camping, playing cards with friends, and spending time with family. Marie leaned on her strong Catholic faith throughout her life and was a lifetime member of St. John’s Catholic Church.
Marie will be missed dearly by her loving and devoted husband of 57 years, Charles Krause of Wahpeton, ND; her daughters Jana (Jeff) Plooster of Rapid City, SD, and Jennifer (Shari) Krause of Bismarck, ND; her grandchildren, Matthew Plooster and Jason Plooster of Rapid City, SD; her four sisters Linda (Ray) Thoennes of Wahpeton, ND, Diane (Kevin) Kutzer of Wahpeton, ND, Bev (Roger) Morton of Grand Forks, ND, and Sharon (Gordon) Raeder of Sarasota, FL; her sister-in-law Ruth Krause of Fergus Falls, MN; her brother-in-law Ron (Nancy) Krause of Broken Arrow, OK; her 16 nephews and nieces: Brad (Tina) Thoennes of Moorhead, MN, Kristie (Jeff) Wiese of Fargo, ND, Corey (Danielle) Kutzer of Wahpeton, ND, Tracy Nicholson of West Fargo, ND, Christopher (Tara) Kutzer of Fergus Falls, MN, Jesse Morton of Grand Forks, ND, Casey Morton of Bear, DE, Laura (Joe) Parente of Riverview, FL, Christine (Matt) Prim of Port Charlotte, FL, Joseph Novetzke of Tallahassee, FL, Michael Novetzke of Sarasota, FL, Dave Krause of Phoenix, AZ, Robert “LB” (Sheila) Krause of Fergus Falls, MN, Matt (Jennifer) Krause of Fergus Falls, MN, Angela Goodrich of Wahpeton, ND, and Wendy (Bill) McGovern of Tulsa, OK; and her three godsons: Brad (Tina) Thoennes of Moorhead, MN, Mark (Jennifer) Beyer of Wahpeton, ND, and Todd Meyer of Minot, ND.
