Marilyn Lemieux Leinen, age 75, of Fairmount, ND, passed away on May 31, 2025, at Essentia Medical Center in Fargo, ND. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 2 pm with visitation one hour before the service at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home in Wahpeton. Tory Amundson, Marilyn's son-in-law, will officiate the service.
Marilyn Ruth Lemieux was born on July 8, 1949, in Wolf Point, Montana, to Edgar A. and Nona C. Lemieux and grew up in the Great Falls, Montana area. She was the eldest of 5 children and the only girl.
Marilyn graduated from Kings Garden High School in 1968 in Seattle, WA. From there, she attended College in Minot, ND, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Childhood Education. In 1981, Marilyn started her career at Poplar Elementary School in Poplar, Montana. She met and married Mark Gerald Leinen on August 6, 1982, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Poplar.
Mark and Marilyn settled in Mark's hometown of Fairmount, ND, where they raised three daughters. Deanna, Joanna, and Amanda.
Marilyn was fond of music and singing, and she loved to study her bible. On nice warm days, you could find her outside chasing the chickens in her wheelchair.
Marilyn is survived by her loving husband Mark, her three daughters, Deanna (Patrick) Porter, Fargo, ND, Joanna (Henry) Gray Hawk, Fairmount, ND, and Amanda (Tory) Amundson, Fairmount, ND. Her grandchildren Mara (Jody) Bladow, Cameron (Emily) Porter, Dacia (Landon) Starks, Tara Porter, Nick Schroeder, Alysa Engelhart, Everett Porter, Ela Day Child, Brayden Day Child, Chino, Liem, and Markus Gray Hawk. Kaelie, Jamie, Lilly, and Kevin Amundson. And 11 great-grandchildren, four brothers, Jerry (Connie) Klamath Falls, OR, Brian (Jacki) Brainerd, MN, Neil (Jeanette) Dillin, MT, and Dana Lemieux Yakima, WA. 15 Brothers and sisters-in-law from the Leinen side and countless nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Stephen, and her father and mother-in-law, Mike and Viola Leinen. Vertin-Munson Funeral Home in Wahpeton, ND, is in charge of arrangements.
