Marlys Kay Lund, 74, of Wahpeton, passed away Sunday, June 11, 2023, at Sanford on Broadway in Fargo, ND. Her visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 15, 2023, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Grace Lutheran Church in Breckenridge, MN.  A memorial service will be held at the church on Friday, June 16, 2023, at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior, burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Breckenridge, MN.  Pastor Ross Fritz will officiate.  Vertin-Munson Funeral Home is entrusted with her services.

Marlys Kay Andel was born in Breckenridge, Minnesota on February 5th, 1949, to Gilbert and Bernice (Kegley) Andel.  She graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1967, and on September 16th of that same year, she married the love of her life, Gerald Lund.  The couple were wed at Grace Lutheran Church in Breckenridge, MN, where she was also baptized and confirmed.  Marlys and Jerry were blessed with a daughter, Kristie.  With Jerry being in the Air Force, they lived in Rapid City, SD, and Grand Forks, ND, before making their permanent home in Wahpeton, ND, in 1972.  When they moved to Wahpeton, Marlys then would work as an administrative assistant for local businesses.

Marlys found immense joy in spending time with her grandsons whom she adored with every fiber of her being. Her grandson's beaming smiles would light her world up. She couldn't be any more prouder of the young men they have become.  Marlys was also a lover of all animals, having two special dogs of her own.

Marlys enjoyed gardening and canning as well as planting different flowers to brighten up the world around her. One of the favorite memories spoken of Marlys by her family was helping to plant the 16 flowerpots she adorned her yard with.  She also had quite a knack when it came to visiting the casinos. Luck never seemed to leave her side.

Marlys's presence will be missed dearly by all those who knew and loved her. She will forever remain in our hearts as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, empathetic animal lover, and most importantly an advocate of kindness.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Gerald; daughter, Kristie (Tom) Rittenhouse; grandsons, Zackary, Cody, Tyler and Wyatt Rittenhouse; brother, Harvey Andel; sister, Marjorie Murphy; sisters-in-law, Dianne (Ralph) Lupkes, Marge (Bruce) Mills, Cindy Lund, and Debbie (Steve) McCann.

Marlys is preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert and Bernice; brother, Gilbert Andel Jr., sisters-in-law, Susan Andel, Janice Andel, mother and father-in-law, Oscar and Leona Lund; and brother-in-law Dennis Lund.

Rest easy Marlys Kay Lund; you have lived life beautifully and left us all with fond memories that we will cherish forever.
