Marvin David Jahner, 79, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2025, at Sanford Medical Hospital surrounded by his wife and family. His funeral service will be held Monday, June 9, 2025, at 1:00 pm, with visitation one hour before the service, at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home in Wahpeton, ND. Burial will be at a later date, yet to be determined, at Regent Cemetery in Regent, ND.
Marvin was born on August 4, 1945, in Richardton, ND, to Frank and Eva (Sticka) Jahner. He was raised on a farm in rural Mott, ND, and attended country school through 8th grade, then attended Regent Public School, where he graduated in 1964.
Marvin met Alta Griffin in 1961 at a Drive-In movie. They married in 1965 in Wallace, Idaho. To this union, they added 4 children. They lived in Regent, where Marvin was employed at the O & M Elevator before he was hired to drive a gas truck for the Farmers Union in town. He then started working with his brother doing construction before starting his own business, Jahner Construction, where he LOVED building pole barns, while running Regent Lumber Yard at the same time.
In 1995, Marvin and Alta moved to Wahpeton, ND, where Marvin was employed by Unico during the construction of the ProGold plant in north Wahpeton. Marvin was hired by ProGold (later sold to Cargil), where he managed the warehouse.
Marvin retired from Cargil in 2010. In his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends and taking an occasional trip to the casino. But most of all, Marvin enjoyed working and relaxing in his backyard. Every day he could, he would go to the garage, turn up the country music on his stereo, and enjoy his backyard. He would smile from ear to ear anytime people would come to see it, proud of all the hard work that he and Alta had done there. He would receive many compliments on how pretty his backyard was.
Left to cherish Marvin’s memories are his loving wife, Alta, of 59 years and 9 months; and his children, David (Denise) Jahner of Regent, ND, Chad (Lana) Jahner of Dickinson, ND, Cheri (Wade) Peterson, Wahpeton, ND. His grandchildren, Kristin (Luke) Smillie, Lee (Joni) Jahner, Nathaniel (Jocey) Jahner, Courtney (Andrew) Ruele, Alexandra Jahner, 7 great grandchildren, 7 siblings, and several nieces and nephews.
Marvin is preceded in death by his parents, his son, Scott Lee Jahner, his brother Fredrick Jahner, his sisters, Barbara Bergee and her husband Gene, Donna Howe, and one great-grandson, Bennett Ruele.
