She attended school in Rosholt, SD, and then moved to Wahpeton, where she worked several years for Linn Harris Restaurant working herself up to Lead Waitress. Mary worked for twenty years at Sweetheart Bakery in Wahpeton and volunteered at the Richland-Wilkin Food Pantry as well as serving on the Pantry Board.

The couple enjoyed camping, traveling throughout the United States, trips to Africa and Europe. They loved spending winters in Mission, TX. After her husband passed away, Mary continued to live in Wahpeton, moving to the Leach Home in 2014, where she developed many friendships and enjoyed the activities at the home.

Mary was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She loved to crochet and enjoyed playing cards at the Senior Center where she belonged to the "Kitchen Band".
