Maynard Mahler

October 20, 1936 — January 18, 2015

Maynard Mahler, 78, Fairmount, ND, passed away Sunday, January 18, 2015, at his home under the care of Riveredge Hospice. The Funeral Service will be Monday, January 26, 11:00 a.m., at Fairmount United Methodist Church, Fairmount, with Rev. Mark Gronseth officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 3 PM to 6 PM with a 5 PM Prayer Service, at Willow Creek Chapel, Wahpeton, and one hour before the service at the church on Monday. Vertin-Munson Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Maynard was born October 20, 1936, in DeVillo Township, ND. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Tyler, ND. Maynard attended country school at DeVillo No. 1 and graduated from Fairmount High School. He went to NDSSS in Wahpeton, where he took Auto Mechanics. He married Sandy Gajer in 1957; the couple lived in Mandan, ND, where Maynard worked at Standard Oil. The family returned to Fairmount where Maynard farmed south of Fairmount, worked at Farmers Union in the winter and later operated a hardware store. In 1981 he moved to the Twin Cities where he worked at a hardware store and a machine shop. In 2003 he moved back to Fairmount where he helped his brother farm and also worked at Cenex.

Maynard was a member of the Fairmount Fire Dept., and served on many civic boards as well as volunteered at Fairmount Community Center. He enjoyed woodworking and fishing.

Maynard is survived by two sons and a daughter: Scott Mahler Osceola, WI; Brian Mahler, Wahpeton; Kim (Bob) Edwards, Calgary, Canada; six grandchildren: Adam Mahler, Alex Mahler, Allyson Mahler, Arik Mahler, Jamie Edwards (Jeff Anderson), children Jace and Jayla; and Danny Edwards; two brothers and a sister: Curtis (Violet) Mahler, Milnor, ND; Douglas (Carmen) Mahler, Fairmount; Kathleen (Cliff) Hamlow, Lake Oswego, OR; his brother-in-law Jim Kysilka, Fargo, ND and numerous nieces, nephews, and a special friend, Betty Cromwell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Lavonne Kysilka and his nephew, Steve Kysilka
