Michael Coppin

June 14, 1953 — May 15, 2017

Fisherman and hunter extraordinaire, Michael Coppin, died on Monday, May 15, after a struggle with kidney cancer.

Born and raised in Hankinson, Michael made his home in Wahpeton since the early 1980s.

Loved and valued by his family, railroad colleagues, fishing and hunting friends, Michael will always be remembered for his wit, humor, and ability to solve life's knottiest problems with the simplest of solutions, "The fish are always biting somewhere."
Summers spent at Holly's Resort on Ottertail Lake with his "posse" and his family were sacred for everyone involved. Christmas was as special to Michael at 63 as when he was a boy of 5. He never tired of watching the TV shows that defined his childhood, Leave it to Beaver, The Andy Griffith Show, and Perry Mason. Michael never lost his sense of wonder for the true and simple things in life.

He retired in 2013 after 37 years on the BNSF Railroad and savored every minute of the last few years in search of walleyes and pheasants (and finding them!).

He is survived by his wife, Geri Bigham; his daughter, Amy, and Significant Other, Zach Long; his sister, Faye Wetzel (Richard); his brother, Bill Coppin and Significant Other, Carrie Lynnes; his nephew, Alex Coppin; his Aunt, Viola Ebel; his 2 beloved German Shorthairs, Izzy and Della; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Coppin, and his mother, Leona Coppin.
Michael's grandparents, Fred and Lydia Coppin and Robert and Anna Hohenstern were also very influential people in Michael's life.

The family thanks Miranda and the staff of CHI Health at Home Hospice for their competence and compassion.
He was a lovely, handsome, gentle man who is truly missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Richland County Pheasants Inc. would please Michael.
