Mildred Putman

August 20, 1922 — August 16, 2017

Mildred “Millie” Putman, 94, of Wahpeton, ND passed away on August 16, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society, Battle Lake, MN. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2017 from 10:00 to 11:00 am, followed by her memorial service at 11:00 am, at Bethel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton with Rev. Erika Buller officiating. Burial will be at the Gwinner City Cemetery, Gwinner, ND. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.

Mildred Annette Putman was born August 20, 1922 at Milnor, ND, the daughter of Christian and Clara (Mohberg) Stockstad. She grew up on a farm near Milnor and graduated from Milnor High School. She met Kenneth while working at his father’s café and they were married February 26, 1943 in Hendrum, MN. The couple lived in Fargo, ND until moving to Gwinner, ND. Millie worked for Dahl’s Grocery and the US Postal Service. After retirement they moved to Wahpeton, ND in 1986. Winters were spent in Mesa, AZ summers were spent visiting family at the lakes. Kenneth passed away July 5, 2000; Millie continued to live in Wahpeton.

Millie was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing cards, reading, cross stitch and singing. She did volunteer work for Richland Food Pantry and St. Francis Gift Shop for many years.

Millie is survived by her son and daughter, LeRoy (Eileen) Putman, Alexandria, MN; Sandy (Jerry) Lein, Underwood, MN; 4 grandchildren: Aaron (Heidi) Putman, Tyler (Laurel) Putman, Michelle (Brady) Meyer, and Brian (Kristie) Lein; 7 great grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren; her sister Ruby (Archie) Hokana, Moorhead, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kenneth, and three brothers, Arnold, Clarence and Orval Stockstad.
