Richard Arenstein

Richard Arenstein, 74, of Wahpeton, ND passed away on Monday, May 30, 2016 at CHI St. Francis Healthcare, Breckenridge, MN. There will be a memorial service at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at Bethel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton, with Rev. Erika Buller officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at the church. A Private, family burial will be held at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.

Richard was born on December 19, 1941 in Bismarck, ND to Willber and Marion (Landgren) Arenstein. He grew up and attended school in Bismarck, graduating from Bismarck High School with the class of 1958. On June 1, 1965 Richard began working in Radio Personality at KFGO in Fargo, ND until July 8, 1968.

Richard married Carol D. Oster on June 3, 1968 in Las Vegas, NV and to this union, their son Rick was born. In July of 1968, Richard began working for the Highway Patrol Department in Stanley, ND. In 1971, they left Stanley and moved to Wahpeton where he took a job in Richland County working for the North Dakota Highway Patrol. He continued working there until his retirement in 1994.

Richard enjoyed airplanes and aviation, and even obtained his pilot's license. He also took great joy in following his son around to watch him play hockey. Richard always liked to spend time with his friends, and you could often find him at the Sundowner enjoying their company. But, what Richard loved most of all was being a Grandpa to his three grandchildren.

Richard is survived by his wife, Carol Arenstein, Wahpeton; his son, Rick (Misty) Arenstein, Wahpeton; his grandchildren Erika, Beau and Jazmine Arenstein, all of Wahpeton; his sister, Roberta Arenstein, Bismarck; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willber and Marion.
