Richard Hoglin, 90, of Wahpeton, ND, formerly of Hankinson, ND, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2023, at St. Francis Hospital, in Breckenridge, MN. His memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday, February 6, 2023, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hankinson with visitation one hour prior. Pastor Tom Clark will officiate. Burial will be at a later date.
Richard Paul Hoglin was born August 17, 1932, to Axel and Elvira (Glad) Hoglin in Hallock, MN. He was baptized at Sion Lutheran Church in Lancaster, MN, on Sept 26, 1933. He attended both country and public school, graduating from Lancaster Public School. Richard served in the United States Army from 1953-1955. After his time in the service, he attended NDSCS for two years, obtaining his degree in the auto body program.
While he was at NDSCS, he met Marjorie Schultz from Hankinson, ND. They were married on March 19, 1960. For a couple years they lived in Crookston, MN, where Richard did auto body work. The couple then moved back to Hankinson, ND, where they made their life on the farm, raising the two children they were blessed with. In 1995, Richard retired from farming, and he and Marjorie moved into town.
Richard liked to be busy. He served on the township board, was a church officer, and liked to dance. He and Marjorie attended many dances, and the Polka was always his favorite. Gardening and family time were also among his favorite pastimes. You could find him at many of his grandchildren’s school events, or in his garden, where many family memories were made.
Richard is survived by his wife, Marjorie; daughter, Shannon (Gary) Schreiber; son, Bruce (Geralyn) Hoglin; grandchildren, Jolynn (Evan) Betts, Sarah (Zac) Bremmon, and Jared Hoglin; great-grandson, Ryker; brother-in-law, Marvin Elgie; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Axel and Elvira; sisters, Darlene Muhle and Louise Starns; sister-in-law, Shirley Elgie; and brother-in-law, Allen Schultz.
