Robert Lemke

August 10, 1932 — February 24, 2016

Robert L. Lemke Sr, 83, Wahpeton, ND, passed away, Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at his residence in Wahpeton, ND, from pneumonia complications. A Family Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 5, at St. John's Catholic Church, Wahpeton. Visitation will be 5 PM to 7 PM Friday, March 4, at Willow Creek Chapel, Wahpeton. Arrangements have been entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.
Robert LeRoy Lemke was born August 10, 1932, the seventh of nine children of Albert and Clara (Olson) Lemke, in Barnesville, MN. Robert attended school in Barnesville, graduating from Barnesville High School in 1950. He entered the US Army in 1952 and served in the 3rd Armored Division being honorably discharged in 1954. He was united in marriage to Marjorie Nosal in 1955. He was employed at William Collins Construction Co. and Northern Improvement Construction before he started his employment at NDSCS where he taught Welding and Blueprint Reading from 1966 to 1994 having moved from Barnesville, MN, to Wahpeton, ND, in 1971. He always enjoyed receiving calls and letters from his students letting him know how they were doing.
Robert was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Wahpeton, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Wahpeton Eagles, Woody Keeble VFW Post 4320, and a Lifetime member of the Hafner-Miller-Ross American Legion Post No. 20. He enjoyed playing whist, pinochle and computer games.
Robert is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marjorie, Wahpeton; five children: Rodney (Renee Sandberg) Lemke, Scottsdale, AZ; Janet (Jim) Diederick, Fargo, ND; Linda (Bruce) Christianson, Wahpeton, ND; Robert (Julie) Lemke Jr., Chandler, AZ; Albert (Beth) Lemke, Gilbert, AZ; 17 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, his brother, Roy Lemke, Fergus Falls, MN; his three sisters, Ruth Braseth, Moorhead, MN; Rose Miller Moorhead, MN; and Rolaine Askegaard, Moorhead, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Clara, two brothers, Raymond and Ralph Lemke, and two sisters, Rhoda Hough and Ruby Vanca.
Military Honors will be conducted by North Dakota Funeral Honors Team and Wahpeton Military Unit.Robert's family requests that memorials be directed to your favorite charity in his honor.
