Rodney Hingst

August 17, 1936 — December 17, 2014

Rodney "Ray" Hingst, 78, Breckenridge, MN passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at St. Gerard's Community Nursing Home, Hankinson, ND. A private family service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND.

Ray was born on August 17, 1936 at Tyler, ND to Edward and Luella (Sikorski) Hingst. He grew up in the Great Bend, ND area and graduated from St. Francis Academy in Hankinson in 1954.

Ray served for twenty years in the U.S. Navy. After retiring from the Navy he moved to Anchorage, Alaska and worked for Sealand. He most recently was living at Twin Town Villa in Breckenridge, MN.

Ray was a great story teller and shared many stories about his Alaska and Great Bend fishing and hunting days. He liked gardening, cooking and traveling. He was an avid reader and would enjoy reading a seed catalog as much as a suspense novel. The Leach Library staff members were special friends to Ray.

Ray is survived by his step-mother, Margaret Hingst, Breckenridge, MN; step-sons, Scott (Karla) Hanson, Brandon, SD, David Hanson, Tacoma, WA; step-grandchildren, Erik, Andrea, and Ashley Hanson; brother, Darrell Hingst, Fergus Falls, MN; sisters, Kathel (Francis) Doll, Blaine, MN, Jean (Bob) Littke, Liberty Lake, WA, Carrie (Carlos Almodovar) Hingst, Wahpeton, ND, Julie Berg, Wahpeton, ND; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Hingst, Waterford, MI, Lyla Hingst, Eagle River, AK; special cousins, Betsy (Sikorski) Sherber, Oakdale, MN, Lloyd "Punky" Hingst, Wahpeton, ND. He had many nieces and nephews that were dear to him and shared a special bond with Albert Hingst.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Shirley, brothers, Ward Hingst, Leander Hingst, sisters, Vondalu Anderson, Glenda Gwynn, brothers-in-law, Larry Anderson, David Berg, Edward Gwynn, sister-in-law, Beth Hingst.
