Rodney “Nick” W. Kubela, 74, Wahpeton, ND, passed away Sunday, December 20, 2009 at his residence in Wahpeton. The Funeral will be 1:00 PM, Monday, December 28, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Wahpeton. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a 5:00 PM prayer vigil at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, and one hour before the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery , Mandan , ND , in the spring.





Rodney W. Kubela, also known as Nick was born August 3, 1935 at Wahpeton, ND, the son of Joseph and Angeline (Gebhart) Kubela. He grew up in Wahpeton where he attended school. He entered the US Marines January of 1954 and served until January of 1957. After the service he returned to the Wahpeton area where he worked for B & W Fleet Hardware. He married Beverly Murdoff on May 31, 1965 in Breckenridge , MN . Nick owned and operated “Kubela Sports” in Wahpeton before he worked in sales in the automotive industry; he currently was working for Dakota Chrysler in Wahpeton.





Nick was an active member of VFW Post No. 2766, Cooties, and Alfred Lockman American Legion Post No. 53 of Breckenridge. He was an avid Chicago Bears football fan and enjoyed snowmobiling and hunting. His special interest in his life was his family and grandchildren.





Nick is survived by his mother, Angeline, Breckenridge, MN, his four children: Blair (Tammy) Kubela, Fergus Falls, MN; Kim (Jerry Dean) Jirak, Breckenridge, MN; Jason Kubela, Waite Park, MN; Emily (Jay Miller) Kubela, Wahpeton; his six grandchildren: Chelsey, Tyler and Rylee Kubela; Nicholas and Malena Jirak, Erica Miller; his sister, Sharilyn “Terry” (Robert) Bodson, Harrison, AK; his sister-in-law, Theresa Kubela, Wahpeton; and many nieces and nephews.





He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph; his brother, Norman ‘Buzz” Kubela; his sister Yvonne Veitenheimer and his brother-in-law, Lawrence Veitenheimer.
