Ronald Francis Mauch, 83 years old died on December 27, 2024, at St. Francis Hospital in Breckenridge, MN. Ron died after a long battle with cancer. He was born on July 24, 1941 in Hankinson, ND to Ed and Rita Mauch. He is survived by his children Shawn (Michelle Fussy) Mauch and Keri (Greg) Moon and grandchildren Sydnie, Eva, Sylvia, and Edason. He was the oldest of 11 and is survived by his siblings Kathy (Dennis) Heitkamp, Marilyn (Jim) Douglass, Jim (Diane) Mauch, Wayne (Wanda) Mauch, Jeannette (Duane) Wahl, Rosemary (Dave) McDougall, Renee (Steve) Reberg, Paul (Connie) Mauch, Tom (Yvonne) Mauch, Dan (Shanaz) Mauch. He was preceded in death by Ed and Rita Mauch, Dennis Heitkamp, Diane Mauch, Chris McDougall, and Kelby Douglass.
Ron attended NDSU (Go Bison!) for a bit before moving to Minneapolis, MN for employment opportunities. He worked for Loram, a railroad maintenance company, for over 20 years and was able to see much of the North American Continent with lots of stories to share. He retired and moved onto his second career and became his own boss. He owned Wahpeton Standard in Wahpeton, ND until he retired at age 62 and was a proud small business owner who loved to support his community.
Ron was an avid sports fan and loved watching baseball, football and basketball although he would watch just about any sport. He also golfed until he was no longer able to walk long distances and swing a club. He volunteered for the senior center and St. John’s Catholic Church and School. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Ron was a larger-than-life kind of person. You could hear him a block away and he always had time for a hello and a chat. Every person that met him was his friend.
His services will be held at St. John’s Catholic Church in Wahpeton, ND, on Friday, January 3, 2025, starting with the rosary at 9:30 am followed by the viewing at 10:00 am. The funeral mass will be held directly after the viewing at 11:30 am. Lunch will follow at 12:30 at St. John’s Mehok Center.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be used to benefit those less fortunate or those going through a difficult time.
We would like to acknowledge Keisha and the CHI Hospice team for helping and supporting Ron on his final journey. Our gratitude goes to God almighty, and we thank the community, family, and friends for their support.
