Roselyn Mohs was born on February 1, 1956, in Tooele, Utah. She grew up on a farm near Great Bend, where she developed a deep appreciation for family and hard work. As a young girl, she loved horses and fondly cherished memories of her horse, Comanche.
Rose was united in marriage to Jeffrey Schwartz on January 21, 1978. They made their home in Wahpeton.
Rose pursued her passion for caring for others by earning her Associate’s degree in Nursing from North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton. She dedicated over 30 years to her nursing career, primarily in geriatric care, where her dedication to service and connection made a lasting impact on countless patients and families.
She was a woman of many talents and interests. Rose enjoyed painting and drawing, and she had a beautiful singing voice that she generously shared at weddings and funerals. She also loved reading and shopping (never a sale or thrift store she’d miss!), but most of all, she treasured time spent with her family. Her favorite title was Grandma. Known for her generosity and warm hospitality, Rose took great joy in hosting family gatherings and creating a welcoming home for all.
Rose was a devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend, North Dakota, where her faith was an important part of her life.
She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Jeffrey Schwartz; her father, Ralph Johnson; her children, Kristi (Todd) Dutchuk and their children Jacob, Isabelle, and BoDee; Amy Jacobson and her son Drake; Michael (Tamey) Schwartz and their children Logan and Garrett, as well as Michael’s children, Sabrina (Dylan) Coomer and Jeremiah Debenedetto; and her great-grandchildren, Evie and Asher (children of Sabrina), and Mordecai (son of BoDee).
She is also survived by her siblings, Roberta Maurer, Robin Wright, Jimmi Ladwig, Debbie Aldrich, and Jim Johnson; her step-siblings, Jackie Munter, Sheila Jeske, Mona McKibben, Don Hudson, and Sonny Hudson; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Charlotte Mohs Afu; her father, Vernon Mohs; her stepmother, Barbara Johnson; her mother-in-law, Virginia Schwartz; her father-in-law, Raymond Schwartz; her siblings, Jody Mohs and Rita Patterson; and her beloved grandson, Dalton Dutchuk.
Rose will be remembered for her kind heart, her unwavering generosity, her beautiful voice, and the love she gave so freely to her family and friends. Her legacy of compassion and care will live on in all who knew her.
