Sophy Hauschild

May 22, 1918 — September 7, 2016

Sophy Hauschild, 98, of rural Wahpeton completed her earthly pilgrimage on September 7, 2016 in the presence of her loving family at Regina Assisted Living, Hastings, MN. Her funeral service will be at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wahpeton, North Dakota, on Monday, September 12 at 10:30 AM, with Rev. Josh Bernau officiating. Visitation will be at Willow Creek Chapel, Wahpeton, from 5:00 to 7:00 on Sunday evening, September 11, with a prayer service at 7:00. Interment will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton, ND. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.
Sophy (Sophia) Ruth Augusta Schroeder was born on May 22, 1918, to Gustave and Mary Schroeder in Buse Township near Fergus Falls, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. She attended elementary school in Buse Township and at Trinity Lutheran parochial school. She graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1935 and from business college in Fargo, ND, the following year.
On June 15, 1941, she was married to Earl Hauschild at Grace Lutheran Church in Fargo, ND, by Pastor Arnold Grumm. They spent their entire married life operating a farm in Summit Township, Richland County, North Dakota. Although born in Minnesota, after more than 70 years on the prairie, she died a loyal North Dakotan.
On their farm Sophy and Earl raised a family of five: Sandy (Roger) Ploeger of West Des Moines, Iowa; David (Lois) Hauschild of Blaine, Minnesota; John (Bonnie) Hauschild of Wahpeton, North Dakota; James (Sharon) Hauschild of River Falls, Wisconsin; and Jane (Greg) Collins of Hastings, Minnesota.
Coming close to the century mark in years here on earth, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl, by her three sisters and brother: Lucille Perkins, Ellen Kalkofen, Robert Schroeder and twin sister Anna at birth, by all of her sisters and brothers-in-law, and by most of her other contemporaries. Clearly having a longevity gene, she was the last surviving member of her generation in her family.
She is survived by all of her children and their spouses and by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren including: Stephanie (Kevin) Schrader and their children Nicole and Kyle; Syd Hausmann; Jody (Karl) Ingwersen and their daughter Kaylee; Robin (Jamie) Byrne and their children Emma and Zachary; Kristen Norby and her children Marissa and Reese; Andrew Hauschild; Jeff Schulke; Becky (John) Haydon and their children Tyler and Sophy; Jim Jr. (Dawn) Hauschild and their daughter Taylor; Heather (Mathew) LeMoine and their children Kathryn and Anna; Daniel (Kristin) Hauschild and their daughter Lucy; Dustin (Allison) Hauschild and their son Colten; Nathan (Kristina)Collins and their children Owen and Madeline; Adam (Brittany) Collins and their daughter Kathryn; Grant Collins; Logan (fiancé Andrea Long) Collins; and Sallie (Ben) Doty.
