Susie Herbst

Susie Oliver Herbst, 58, Fargo, ND, formerly of Wahpeton, ND passed away on Thursday, April 8, 2010 under the care of Riveredge Hospice, surrounded by her family, at her mother’s residence in Wahpeton. The Memorial Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, April, 15, 2010 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Wahpeton, ND, with Rev. Dale Lagodinski officiating. There will be a Prayer Vigil Wednesday at 7 PM with gathering of family and friends from 6 PM to 7 PM at Willow Creek Chapel, ( 920 3 rd Ave. N. ) Wahpeton. Inurnment will be at Fairview Cemetery , Wahpeton. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.





Susie was born February 15, 1952, in Breckenridge , MN , the daughter of E. W. “ Bud” and Albena (Mechainis) Oliver. She grew up in Wahpeton, where she graduated from Wahpeton High School in 1970. She attended NDSCS in Wahpeton and completed her Bachelor of Science Degree at UND, where she was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority. She continued her education obtaining a degree in Dietetics/Nutrition at NDSU. Susie began her career in the health industry in Brainerd , MN , later moving to Fargo , where she was employed at Dakota Clinic. She retired as a Pharmaceutical Sales Representative for Novartis, where she was recognized for outstanding performance, winning many sales awards.





In 1989 Susie met Richard “Dick” Herbst and they began a 22 year relationship. They married in 1995. Susie and Dick were very fond of their English Springer Spaniels: Annie, Lily, Maggie, Gabby. They were much more the pets; they were part of the family.





Susie will be remembered most of her amazing spirit and outgoing personality. She was always “the life” of every room she was in. She had an incredibly positive outlook, never letting her 38 year battle with cancer get her down. This spirit continued to the very end where Susie could still be found smiling, laughing and interested in every word of a conversation with her. Susie loved and lived every minute of her life to the fullest.





Susie is survived by her husband, Dick Herbst, Fargo; her mother Beanie Oliver, Wahpeton; her sister, Carol (Bill) Daniels, St. Louis Park, MN; her brother, Jim (Donelyn) Oliver, Wahpeton; nephews: Ben Oliver, Gabe Oliver, and Joe (Joelle) Oliver, their son Wesley; step son, Steve Herbst, West Fargo; step-daughter, Lisa (Phil) Hickerson, and children, Jacob, Brian and Katelyn?, Bakersfield, CA; step son-in-law Matt (Julie) Velline, and children, Daniel and Luc Velline, Vanessa, Mariah, and William, Alexandria, MN .





She was preceded in death by her father, Bud Oliver and her step daughter, Kathryn “Katie”” Herbst Velline.





Memorials are requested to be given to Chahinkapa Zoo in Wahpeton, where there will be a special memorial built in Susie’s honor.
