Virginia Jost

Virginia Jost, 102, of Wahpeton, ND, passed away peacefully in her sleep into the arms of the Lord, on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at Siena Court, Wahpeton, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.  Visitation will be Saturday, October 13, from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm followed by the Funeral Service at 2:00 pm at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home in Wahpeton, ND.  Rev. Ken Adams will be officiating.  Burial will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Wahpeton.  Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.

Virginia Jost was born on August 12, 1916 in Breckenridge, MN, to Walter and Mabel (Harborn) Crawford.  She grew up on the family farm west of Wahpeton, helping her parents deliver farm produce to customers in town during the early 1930’s.  She graduated from Wahpeton High School in 1934 and from NDSSS in 1937 in the Business Program.  Her first job was at Triple A, now known as Farm Service Agency.

She married LeRoy Wm. Jost on November 29, 1947 at the Congregational Church in Wahpeton.  They moved from a rented farmstead to their home in Wahpeton in 1956, at which time she began her career at the Richland County Treasurer’s Office as deputy, a job she held until her retirement in 1981.  She continued living in her home until moving into an apartment in 2000, and then to Siena Court in January 2016, where she was lovingly cared for by a great staff.

Virginia was a devoted wife and loving mother, always ready with a listening ear.  She was a very modest, sweet and caring lady, never getting upset with anyone.  She was an active member of the Wahpeton United Church of Christ (Congregational), helping with church functions and serving as Financial Secretary for many years.  She and her sister helped with the church’s pie making project for fundraising.  She was also a member of the ND Society of Mayflower descendants.

Virginia is survived by her son, Walter Jost and Scott Olson, both of Wahpeton; along with 10 nieces and nephews; 16 great-nieces and nephews; and many great-great nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Mabel; her Husband, LeRoy, November 3, 1997; and her sister, Patty Domm, December 9, 2016.
