Wesley O. Allen, 93, Wahpeton, ND died Thursday, August 11, 2016 at St. Francis Healthcare Campus in Breckenridge, MN. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 19, at 11:00 AM at Bethel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton, with Rev. Erika Buller officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton. Memorials can be given to Bethel Lutheran Church. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.
Wes was born November 29, 1922 in Walcott, ND to Edith (Shaver) and D.B. Allen. He graduated from Walcott High School, the North Dakota College of Science, and later received his B.S. degree from the University of South Dakota. He served in the U.S. Army three years, and during World War II participated in three major campaigns in the European Theatre as a Staff Sergeant. He then joined the staff at NDSCS as an electronics instructor in 1946 and served as the Electronics Department Chairman until he retired in 1985. He was a member of the NDSCS Faculty Senate, served as president of the North Dakota Technical Teacher's Association, and later served as president of the North Dakota Vocational Association. Wesley was united in marriage to Eleanor Myhre on August 14, 1948 at Walcott, ND, and they resided together in Wahpeton for almost 54 years, until Eleanor died in 2002.
Wes was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He spent time watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings games, as well as NDSU football games. He loved his summers at their lake home on West McDonald Lake, and winters spent in Lake Havasu, AZ. In later years, he made intricate oak fretwork pictures with his scroll saw and read all of the Louis L'amour western books more than once. He was dedicated to his afternoon coffee group in Wahpeton, and cherished his friendship with Millie Putman. He last resided at Twin Town Villa in Breckenridge and enjoyed everyone there. He was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church and served as deacon for several years. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Wahpeton Elks Lodge.
Wesley is survived by his two daughters and son-in-law: Barbara Hartmann, of Sauk Centre, MN and Janet and William "Kim" Davis, of Kalispell, MT.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Curtis Allen, and three sisters, Donna Toussaint, Shirley Agriesti and Lauretta Irvine.
