Edith Strege, 94 died at the St. Francis Nursing Home, Breckenridge, MN on June 11, 2012. The Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday June 15, at United Church of Christ-Congregational, Wahpeton. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Interment will be at St. John's Evangelical and Reform Cemetery, Lidgerwood, ND. Vertin-Munson Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Edith was born on October 5th, 1917, to Mr. and Mrs. John W. Strege at their Richland County Homestead farm in Grant Township. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Evangelical church in Lidgerwood, ND.
After graduating from high school, she continued her education at Valley City St. Teacher's College, Bemidji State, Moorhead State, NDSU, and North Dakota State School of Science. Edith taught elementary school for forty-one years, thirty-one of which were at Central and Zimmerman elementary in Wahpeton.
She ended her career in 1980 and developed a love for traveling with her sister, Eva. Eva and Edith traveled throughout the United States, Europe and Africa. Edith lived with Eva for 50 years until Eva's death in 1999. Edith entered the Leach Home in June of 2005 and then the St. Francis Nursing Home in June of 2007.
Edith was involved in organizations such as the NEA, NDEA, the Clover Rebekkah Lodge, Retired Teachers of ND, and the United Church of Christ Circle.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents John and Hattie, infant brother Alexander, brother Willard, and three sisters, Eva and Eleanor Strege, and Lolita Pace.
She is survived by her niece Gail Hanna of Harrisburg, South Dakota, nephew Fred Strege, Wahpeton, and five grand-nieces, Sara, Laura, Angie, Barbara and Karen, and one grand-nephew David, all of whom loved her and will miss her very much.
